Hong Kong Opens its Largest Solar Plant

Hong Kong is producing energy a little greener today. The largest solar energy plant was recently opened on the island, as part of an effort to cut pollution. Hong Kong opened its largest solar plant last Thursday. Hongkong Electric formally started up the city’s project as part of efforts to help cut pollution. “We’d like to make use of our existing facilities, our existing resources, to maximize the percentage of renewable energy generation in our system. So that’s our main objective.” The million project comprises 5500 solar power modules installed on the roofs of the power plant buildings. The solar plant is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 100 households, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 520 tons a year. Hongkong Electric may expand the plant. “The future trend as I can see it, renewable energy cost will drop in the near future. Especially offshore wind farm and maybe large-scale solar powered as well. So we have to do the renewable bit by bit. We have to gain experience first before we embark on the future more large-scale renewables.” Mounting public pressure to tackle pollution in Hong Kong has led the government to call for 2 percent of the city’s power to be produced by renewable energy by 2012.

Solar powered plane flies through the night

An experimental solar-powered aircraft launched on Wednesday has landed safely in Switzerland after successfully flying through the night. The feat is a step toward the makers’ aim of circling the globe using the power of the Sun to fuel the plane. The aircraft used super-efficient solar cells and batteries to stay in the air after the Sun’s rays had faded. The plane touched down at an airfield about 30 miles (50 km) from the Swiss capital Bern at 0900 (0700 GMT). The four-engine aircraft was steered by Andre Borschberg, a former fighter jet pilot from Switzerland. The plane has 12000 solar cells arranged on its wingspan which collected enough energy to power the plane for the flight.

Solar Energy Cheaper than Coal

Solar energy produced by International Automated Systems, Inc. is now a practical alternative to coal. A revolutionary bladeless turbine enables new solar pods to produce solar power at a lower cost than coal, and free of emissions. Green energy has arrived! Utah’s Neldon Johnson has constructed a working prototype in Salem Utah, and full production is soon to begin. Stock Symbol: IAUS.

See Through Solar Cells

Fifty years inthe making, solar-power cells are still flat, rigid, and ugly. But new research shows how they could be made lightweight, flexible, and transparent. These innovations could expand solar-cell use to things like solar fabrics and power generating windows. www.sciencentral.com

COME RIDE WITH ME IN A Electric Car w/In-Wheel SOLAR PV

Devonshire Wellsford has redesigned the way solar cells are used and harness the sun in innovative ways; whereas, the traditional solar rigs involved motorized frames that follow & track the sun’s movement thru the day, (requring additional energy & maintenance to work properly), “DW” employs a technique involving integrating a PV circular cell grouping on a convex dome placed on spinning objects at high RPM’s and allowing power generation to take place with energy production simultaneously. Photovoltaic cells reach their maximum potential in this manner. The pioneers in solar science at Devonshire Wellsford, Corp., have come up with another solar power breakthru. You and me and Vanna, need to spin this wheel folks! Wheel make a fortune! Solar cells are brimming and spinning with infinite possibilities! Hello sun fans, here’s the new twist!! …….. Use this solar spin concept to power boats, cars, trucks, planes, tools, and just about anything with power needs! (while cooling down the temp. of your PV cells and adding efficiencies) This motor is directly affixed to the solar cell. We feel all hybrids and eco cars could use this added-power source in a new “cool” wheel from the sun! see: devonshirewellsford.com (pp) At “DW” we change your ways of thinking!

Thin-film Photovoltaic (PV) Laminates

Video is from Google video. Installing clean, reliable, inflation-proof solar power is easier than ever, thanks to the invention of thin-film photovoltaic (PV) laminates that can be bonded directly onto metal roofing panels. Unlike crystalline PV material, there’s no need for obtrusive racks and heavy, expensive glass. Instead, unbreakable thin-film PV is produced using amorphous silicon, encapsulated in Teflon and other polymers. www.uni-solar.com www.etaengineering.com www.mhi.co.jp www.bigfrogmountain.com
